UPWP Spotlight November 2008

Greetings! I’m Ann Chappel, your new TC Spotlight Coordinator and Summer ’08 fellow. Some of you may have attended my presentation at the MARESA conference on October 10th on how to develop mental images for writing. Maintaining vitality and vision for teaching writing is my passion. My connections to Marquette go back many years. As former residents my husband and I raised our three daughters in the Marquette area. I graduated from NMU in ’95 and have taught kindergarten through fifth grade including Title 1 in South Dakota, Department of Defense schools in Germany and Traverse City, Michigan where I now reside.

I am excited to serve as your Spotlight Coordinator. The vision is to showcase one UPWP teacher per month. We’re interested in sharing how you are raising the bar of excellence in your school or district on the UPWP wiki. If chosen you would be asked to share a brief example of an area of interest such as student writing, award(s) you’ve received, lesson ideas, or meaningful quotes that influence your practice.

Please help me by nominating a UPWP teacher who exemplifies vision and expertise in their field of teaching. Don’t be surprised if you receive an email or phone call from me to let you know you’ve been selected! I can be reached at lwchappel@juno.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
